Sonic Levels Up With Ben Kingsley Casting

Sir Ben Kingsley as his character in Wonder Man now on Disney+

The Sonic franchise has secured another major name, with Sir Ben Kingsley officially joining the cast of the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog instalment at Paramount Pictures.

The news, first reported by The Insneider, does not reveal what role he will play in the franchise, nor whether itโ€™ll be a voice performance or an on-screen appearance. However, speculation suggests that if it is a voice role, he could be playing Metal Sonic – the murderous robotic antithesis of Sonic – especially after multiple versions of the character appeared in the previous films post-credit scene.

Production is now underway on the latest instalment in the franchise, with it previously being announced that Kristen Bell will join the cast as Sonicโ€™s long-term admirer, Amy Rose. Bell joins returning stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen Oโ€™Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles. At this stage, it has not yet been confirmed which other cast members from the franchise will reprise their roles.

The previous film proved the franchise still has momentum, performing strongly at the global box office and reinforcing sonic as one of the more consistent video game adaptations in recent years. Increasing expectations for the next chapter as production ramps up.

Whilst the plot details remain tightly under wraps, the steady stream of casting announcements suggests the next chapter is aiming to build on the scale and spectacle of its predecessors.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is currently set for a March 2027 release.
