Godzilla Minus One Director To Helm Nue For 20th Century
The film will be produced by Ridley Scott...
Takashi Yamazaki, the director of Godzilla Minus One, is set to lead the upcoming feature, Nue, for 20th Century Fox. It’s also been reported that Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss will hold producer credits for Scott Free.
Keiichiro Moriya and Go Abe will also handle production, alongside Amie Horiuchi.
There have yet to be any plot details about the film released, but the work has been a hot topic in the industry, with Yamazaki’s success with Godzilla Minus One playing a huge part in maintaining attention.
The 2023 monster epic is the 37th Godzilla feature, with the globally monumental media franchise beginning in 1954 with Ishirō Honda’s Godzilla. The film series oversees authorities and civilians battling against Godzilla, a gigantic monster characterised by a lizard-like appearance and an origin story of mutation from nuclear bomb testing.
With features released in both Japan and America, as well as crossovers with other movie monsters, the Godzilla franchise holds the Guinness World Record for the “longest continuously running film series“, and isn’t letting up any time soon.
Yamazaki is set to follow up his take on the franchise with Godzilla Minus Zero. Godzilla Minus One starred Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, and Kuranosuke Sasaki, narrating a kamikaze pilot dealing with PTSD following a run-in with Godzilla.
The film grossed $116 million from a budget of $10 million and won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards.
Godzilla: Minus Zero is set for cinemas on September 6th.
