‘The Pineapple Express’ Sequel: ‘Maybe One Day’
Fans of the 2008 hit The Pineapple Express have for a long time been asking if there is a sequel on the way, and we may be one step closer to getting an answer.
During a recent appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live‘, host Andy Cohen asked creator Seth Rogen a viewer question about the possibility of a sequel, to which Rogen responded, “Maybe, we can probably sell it to streaming or something”. When Cohen went on to point out he thinks there’s “a big demand” for a sequel, Rogen added, “There could be. You never know. I don’t know. I’m not great with sequels. It’s not where my mind goes, but maybe one day”.
There have been public discussions about a sequel in the past that were made public by the infamous Sony email leaks. On The Howard Stern Show in 2020, Rogen said, “We tried to make one. Thanks to the Sony hack, you can find the email when Sony decided to kill the movie and not make it. It was something we were very open to several years ago, but Sony was not that interested in it”.
The original screenplay for The Pineapple Express was written by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Judd Apatow, who also produced the movie. It was directed by David Gordon Green and starred Seth Rogen, James Franco, Gary Cole, Rosy Perez, and Danny McBride. It went on to gross more than $100 million at the worldwide box office.
