Aliens Wreak Havoc In New Trailer For Na Hong-Jin’s Hope

Alien in Hope

Neon has released a new trailer for Na Hong-Jin’s upcoming divisive science fiction epic, Hope.

The film follows the inhabitants of Hope Harbour, a small village in the remote parts of South Korea, as a mysterious creature begins to tear apart its streets and cause panic amongst the community. The film evolves from something small into a disaster of massive proportions.

The film includes Korean star Hwang Jung-Min, as well as Squid Games actress Hoyeon. Also in the film are Hollywood stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell, all of whom are said to be playing the parts of our terrifying aliens.

Na Hong-Jin, who also penned the film, is a director and writer most well known for his sprawling 2016 horror film The Wailing, which also happened to be the director’s last film, with Hope marking the filmmaker’s long-awaited return to the big screen. Some of his other notable works include The Chaser and 2010’s The Yellow Sea

In this trailer, we get a better glimpse at the variety of aliens on display here, as a taller, disturbing figure hurls a body at police to close out the trailer, just after a spaceship is seen crashing down to Earth.

According to Indie Wire, it is set to be the most expensive movie ever filmed in South Korea, with a current budget estimate of ₩50 billion, which is roughly about $33 million.

After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the film was met with extremely polarising reactions, with some praising the film’s seemingly electric nature, whilst others had big problems with the film’s CGI. It is set to have its US premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival on July 20th.
