When it comes to filmmaking and even film criticism, high on the Agenda will be Orson Welles. If you call yourself a ‘Cinephile’ you probably adore his work. Next month Irish filmmaker Mark Cousins The Eyes Of Orson Welles will be released in UK cinemas and today we get a look at the film’s Trailer

The film, directed, written and narrated by Mark Cousins is based on unprecedented and exclusive access to a lifetime of private drawings and paintings by Orson Welles – a lot of which have never been made public.

Having received its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded a Special Distinction for the Lโ€™ล’il dโ€™Or documentary award. A new documentary by critically acclaimed filmmaker Mark Cousins (A Story of Children and Film).

Directed, written, filmed and narrated by Cousins, the film is based upon unprecedented and exclusive access to a lifetime of private drawings and paintings by Welles, most never before made public.

For the first time, his daughter Beatrice Welles has granted Cousins the exclusive right to make a film using her fatherโ€™s artworks. They are a sketchbook of his life, a window into his world and a vivid illustration of his creativity and visual thinking. Cousins reveals how Wellesโ€™ graphic imagination is the key to understanding his ground-breaking work in the theatre and on film.

 

The film recently made it’s UK Premiere at Edinburgh Film Festival. From 2 August until 23 September the public will have a unique opportunity to see Orson Welles drawings and sketches for the first time in an exclusive exhibition at SUMMERHALL in Edinburgh.

The Eyes Of Orson Welles will be released by Dogwoof and will be released in the UK as well as Ireland from 17th August.
