Is it as romantic as you remembered? Charli XCX‘s film streak shows no signs of slowing in Pete Ohs’ Erupcja.
The new trailer, released by Vertigo Releasing, follows Bethany (Charli XCX) and her boyfriend Rob (Will Madden) on a romantic getaway in Poland. When Bethany begins to fear an imminent proposal, she veers off the carefully planned itinerary to reunite with an old friend, Nel (Lena Góra). Over a few charged days, the two women rekindle their uniquely combustible chemistry, insisting that whenever they’re together, there’s an eruption.
But Bethany’s impulsive ways feel all too familiar to Nel, and as a lovesick Rob wanders the streets of Warsaw searching for answers, the three of them are forced to navigate the fine line between fate and chance.
Directed by Ohs, who also wrote, edited, and produced this unique postcard romance, Erupcja (the Polish word for “eruption”) was born from his distinct creative process. He begins with inspiration from a location, then workshops the characters with his cast, and starts production with only half the script outlined. As filming progresses, Ohs and his actors co-write the story, bringing it to life one scene at a time alongside a close-knit, multi-talented crew.
The trailer for Erupcja navigates relationships with a unique, contemporary cinematic style, blending intimate moments and subtle emotional depth. Despite its brief runtime of about 71 minutes, the film feels both expansive and modern.
Erupcja will make its UK premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival on 27th February, to a sold-out audience. Vertigo Releasing will release the film in the UK in the spring.
