Jacob Elordi To Join Scarlett Johansson in A24 Film Scapegoat

An exclusive from Deadline tells that Jacob Elordi is in talks to return to the spotlight after an extended break, with his next project being very close to confirmation. Elordi, the recent Frankenstein Oscar nominee, has taken some time out after an impressive run of hit projects and is soon to get back into the game – potentially to co-star with Scarlett Johansson in an upcoming A24 project; the upcoming thriller is titled Scapegoat.

Scapegoat is coming from the mind of Ari Aster, both in direction and script work, and has had A24 as the distributor for his past four works. Aster is known for his psychologically unsettling films that are grounded in dark comedy – the most popular features of his include Hereditary and Midsommar. His filmmaking history gives vague direction to what the plot of Scapegoat will be; however, in such early stages, there is little to be known.

There has been much speculation about the story, some saying it’s about a doctor operating on an internet star, others that it is a sci-fi romance and more saying it is a traditional drama. This will be Aster’s follow-up to Eddington, and therefore has been a gradual project taking time to ground itself as his next feature film. Despite the so far lengthy process, Aster immediately signed Johansson to star, lining up the main roles in the film.

It has been reported that although he met with multiple actors to secure the other high-stakes role, he was adamant to cast Elordi, who had been fielding multiple offers but was taking some time after an intense stretch of nonstop work. This included his path to an Oscar nomination for Frankenstein among other starring roles that have put him central in the media. Sources state that negotiations over this project began recently, and as long as the deal holds up, filming will start later on in the year.

As mentioned above, Elordi has had a highly successful run over the last 12 months, securing his status as a diverse actor. Frankenstein was followed up with Wuthering Heights, an adaptation co-starring alongside Margot Robbie that proved a height of cinema in that time stretch. Elordi is now also set to star in The Dog Stars alongside Margaret Qualley and Josh Brolin. This is a Ridley Scott sci-fi thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world. As he establishes a name for himself, Elordi sets himself up for a triumphant return to screen after a well-deserved break.
