Sydney Sweeney Cameo Cut From The Devil Wears Prada 2
The Euphoria star was rumoured to be have been seen on set last year...
There are incoming reports that Euphoria and The Housemaid star Sydney Sweeney has been cut from the opening scene ofย David Frankel’sย The Devil Wears Prada 2,ย the sequel to the original comedy-drama film centred around the harsh world of fashion, design and journalism.
Sweeney was pictured on the set of the film, expected to appear as herself alongside original stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep, who are reprising their roles in the sequel. Reports set the deleted scene as Blunt’s character, also called Emily, working as an executive at Dior after leaving her previous role as assistant to the original film’s fictional magazine Runway, dressing Sweeney as a celebrity client.
Co-stars Hathaway, Tucci and Streep then enter the scene, needing Blunt’s help. However, it’s been confirmed that Sweeney will no longer be seen onscreen in the sequel.
โThe scene did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence, and that the team working on the movie was grateful for her participation, making the decision to remove the bit a difficult one,” reads an official statement given on the matter.
Sweeney is currently appearing in the third season of HBO Max’s hit series Euphoria, playing Cassie, who is dividing her time between a doting housewife waiting for marriage and an online sex worker. The actress is also set to appear in the upcoming tragicomedy, The Custom of the Country, by filmmaker Josie Rourke and based on the Edith Wharton novel of the same name from 1913.
The Devil Wears Pradaย was released in 2006 andย focused on Hathaway’s Andi working to become a big-time New York journalist, having to take on a co-assistant position at the cutthroat fashion magazine Runway, run under the brutal thumb of Streep’sย Miranda Priestly, who puts her new employee to the highest demands to break her into what the industry needs.
The film is hailed as a classic with cultural legacy and importance due to its portrayal of a toxic work culture. It grossed $326.7 million at the box office from its $35-41 million budget and inspired a new generation of young women wanting to go into communications or design. The sequel centres on the decline of in-print magazine publishing, which is corroding Runaway, prompting Andi to return to Miranda and help.
The Devil Wears Prada 2ย hits cinemas on May 1st.
