Noah Centineo’s Rambo Prequel Begins Filming
The long-awaited Rambo prequel has entered production. The latest instalment in the franchise, titled John Rambo, has begun filming in Bangkok, Thailand. Noah Centineo (Street Fighter, Black Adam) will lead, with the film exploring the origins of the titular character popularised by Sylvester Stallone.
Centineo will be the first actor to play Rambo since Stallone, with events in the film taking place years before 1982’s First Blood. According to distributors Lionsgate, he will be joined by Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus). Yao (Sinners) and Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows) are also amongst the cast.
Jalmari Helander (Sisu) will helm the project, with the script coming from Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam) and Rory Haines. Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk will serve as executive producers.
First Blood collected $125 million globally. Additionally, the film spawned a franchise, often hailed as some of Stallone’s greatest work. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Helander expressed an aim of making the actor proud: “It’s a big deal for me to actually do a Rambo film, and there’s a lot of responsibility. So, I’m just trying to do the best I can with it, and I hope that’s enough.”
