Michael Mann’s Tokyo Vice Gets A UK Release And Trailer!

When you have crime drama-thriller and Michael Mann mentioned in the same sentence it’s always worth a look. Next month Starzplay will release the Mann directed Tokyo Vice, today we get a look at the UK Trailer.

To break the story, break the rules. The series stars Ansel Elgort (West Side Story) who is American journalist Jake Adelstein who moves to Tokyo in 1990’s.He becomes the first foreign journalist to write for a national Japanese national newspaper reporting crime whilst investigating  faces many roadblocks. Then he meets vice detective Hiroto (Ken Watanabe) who teaches him how to approach the criminal Yakuza underworld with care.

The trailer captures the dark, seedy undertones of Japan’s capital underworld. Going for a more gut punching narrative than full on violence. Powerful stuff and going by what we’re hearing from U.S coverage, exciting series awaits us!

Loosely inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction, first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department beat and filmed on location in Tokyo, the crime drama series TOKYO VICE captures Adelstein’s (played by Ansel Elgort) daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo in the late ‘90s, where nothing and no one is truly what or who they seem.

Tony® Award-winning playwright J.T. Rogers created and wrote the series and also serves as executive producer. Four-time Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® winner Michael Mann directed the pilot and is an executive producer along with Emmy® winner Alan Poul, Jake Adelstein, Ansel Elgort, Emmy® winner Emily Gerson Saines, Brad Caleb Kane, Destin Daniel Cretton, Ken Watanabe, Kayo Washio, and Academy Award® winner John Lesher.

The series also stars Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Keller, Ella Rumpf, Hideaki Ito, Sho Kasamatsu, and Tomohisa Yamashita.

Tokyo Vice will be exclusively shown in the UK and Ireland on Starzplay from 15th May, with the first two episodes.
