Comedy Series Ride or Die Cancelled By Amazon Prime Video

Tessa Coates’ action-comedy series Ride or Die has been unexpectedly cancelled by Amazon Prime Video. The show, which stars Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer, premiered on July 15th to positive reviews and strong audience numbers. While there is no clear reason for the cancellation, Deadline reports that Paramount Television Studios is shopping the series to other buyers.

Ride or Die instantly reached the top slot in the daily U.S. rankings, eclipsing theatrical release Masters of the Universe. It was the No.1 most-watched Prime Video original series in the world for its first three weeks. Luminate saw the title pull 927,000 U.S. views in two days, exceeding the popular Elle (477,000) and Off Campus (245,000) series.

Additionally, the show hit No. 8 on the overall streaming chart and No. 3 among originals on the Nielsen Weekly Top 10. It racked up 869 million minutes viewed. In its second week, it climbed to No. 4 overall and No. 2 on the streaming originals charts with 922 million minutes.

Over its first 14 days of release, Ride Or Die is said to be Prime Video’s most-watched new scripted series in the U.S. between July 2025 and August 2026. It also has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and 85% with audiences.

The show follows best friends Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham). Their worlds are upended after Debbie learns that Judith is an international assassin. When a mysterious figure emerges from Judith’s past and a hit goes horribly wrong, the friends are forced to go on the run together. The series also stars Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, Jacky Ido, Sylvia Hoeks and Bill Nighy.

Season 1 ended with several cliffhangers that set up major storylines for a second season. Whether a second season will see the light of day on another streaming platform, we can’t be sure. Watch this space…
