Apple TV has revealed the new release date for The Savant, the upcoming crime thriller series by Melissa James Gibson, based on an Andrea Stanley article titled Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens? which featured in a 2019 Cosmopolitan. The series will star Jessica Chastain as Jodi Goodwin, also known as The Savant, with additional cast members Nnamdi Asomugha, James Badge Dale, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste and Pablo Schreiber. 

The synopsis centres on Goodwin working as an infiltrator for online hate groups as a means of uncovering and preventing large-scale attacks.

The Savant was originally slated for a 25th September 2025 release; however, it was postponed with no given explanation. The documented shooting of Right-Wing commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on the 1oth was theorised as the cause of the series being pulled from airing, with star Chastain affirming that she was “not aligned on the decision to pause the release.”

Now Apple TV are keen to get the series aired by the end of next May as a way of ensuring attention at the 2027 Emmys. Chastain shares production credits with Kelly Carmichael, alongside Alan Poul, Gibson, David Levine, Garrett Kemble, and Matthew Heineman, who is also credited as director.

Chastain’s past TV credits include the Showtime biographical drama miniseries, George & Tammy, as the second part of the titular role alongside Michael Shannon. The show, by creator Abe Sylvia and director John Hillcoat, focuses on country music stars Tammy Wynette and George Jones during the years of their turbulent careers and marriage, with Chastain receiving a Golden Globe nod for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film at the 80th ceremony and winning the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie at the 29th Ceremony.

The star has also appeared in 2021’s Scenes from a Marriage, alongside Star Wars and Marvel star Oscar Isaac, for HBO, earning her another Golden Globe nod. She is also due to appear in the upcoming horror film, Other Mommy, by director Rob Savage and alongside Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen. The film is set for a 9th October release.

The Savant is now planned for a Spring 2027 release date.
