Matt Reeves to shoot The Batman Part II next spring
It’s been a long time coming but The Batman Part II is officially going ahead. Matt Reeves’s sequel to his 2022 hit The Batman will start shooting in spring 2026 aiming for an October 2027 release, confirms Warner Bros Discovery (via Variety).
The news came out of a Warner Bros shareholders meeting where the following statement was released in a letter: “DC Studio’s universe of characters represents not only one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s most valuable pieces of intellectual property, but one of the most valuable assets in entertainment.” This was also in response to the recent success of James Gunn‘s Superman reboot, starring David Corenswet, which is closing in on $600 million worldwide.
The Batman Part II will reunite Reeves, who recently completed the script, with star Robert Pattinson. The latter was acclaimed for his tortured and noirish take on Bruce Wayne/Batman, acting as our entryway into a vision of Gotham City that owed a lot to Ridley Scott’s rain-soaked Blade Runner.
The Batman was a sizeable hit for DC Studios, cementing Pattinson as a credible new Dark Knight and securing more than $700 million at the global box office. It spawned the well-received spin-off series The Penguin with The Batman actor Colin Farrell reprising his role as the titular Gotham super-villain.
As for Pattinson, he has leveraged his newly minted star power to secure key roles in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (due July 2026) and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three (due December 2026).
In other news, James Gunn will be writing a new entry in the DC ‘Super’ Family canon. Gunn is confirmed to be writing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface and the next Wonder Woman, as announced by Warner CEO David Zaslav (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The aforementioned Warner Bros letter stated: “The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including The Penguin, which recently garnered 24 Emmy nominations and was watched by nearly 20 million HBO Max subscribers, the upcoming new season of Peacemaker, and the debut of Lanterns in 2026.
“In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio’s broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social.”
