David Corenswet injured in snow in James Gunn's Superman credit to Warner Bros Pictures UK

Superman has garnered major commercial success this weekend. As of Sunday morning, Warner is reporting a $122 million opening. *it has since be confirmed by Warner Bros that the film took over $125million over the weekend.ย

With Aย Minecraft Movie earlier in the year, Superman has become Warnerโ€™s second $100 million-plus film in 2025. The weekend is also one to celebrate for DC Studios co-head Peter Safran, as the film is his biggest box office opening ever.

Itโ€™s also the second-best opening for a Superman movie, only behind 2016โ€™s Batman v. Superman, which opened at $166 million.

For director James Gunn, the film is also his second-best opening, with his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reigning supreme at $146.5 million.

The choice to hire Gunn as the helm of this film was a risky one. DC placed the formation of an entire universe on his shoulders. If it didnโ€™t work out, the companyโ€™s long-term plans couldโ€™ve come crashing down. On the other hand, itโ€™s hard to ignore Gunnโ€™s track record or his gift of blending commerce with artistry.

The film had its biggest success in America. Los Angeles, New York and Dallas were its top three markets, respectively.

Superman, DC Studiosโ€™ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures.ย  In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singularย blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman whoโ€™s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.โ€ฏ

The film was released on July 11th.ย
