OCFP135

It’s Podcasting time! Yesterday myself and show host Theo Neumann recorded the latest episode for the Outside Centre Film Podcast. Episode 135 saw both of us travel around the world from Japan to France then over to Iceland.

First up was the family drama, My Dad As A Heel Wrestler -Part of the brilliant Japan Film Foundation Touring Programme. Story of Little Shotaย  who discovers that the father he looks up to plays the despicable heel wrestler, Cockroach. Once a star champion, Takashi decides to overcome his injuries and win back his sonโ€™s heart.

Next we travel back to 1980’s France for the latest from Franรงois Ozon. Directed by Franรงois Ozon and adapted from the novel ‘Dance on my Grave’ by English author Aidan Chambers, Summer of ’85 is a story of friendship and love between two teenage boys at a seaside resort in Normandy in the mid-1980s. When 16-year-old Alexis capsizes off the coast of Le Treport, 18-year-old David heroically saves him. Alexis thinks he’s just met the friend of his dreams. But will the dream last more than one summer?

Finally we end in Iceland for Silja Hauksdรณttirโ€™s mother-daughter drama Agnes Joy. An universal story of family dynamics and teenage rebellion. Rannveig is frustrated with all aspects of her small-town life.ย  hates her work at the family business, stagnatingย  marriage and always battling with her rebellious 18-year-old daughter, Agnes Joy. When well-known TV actor moves in next door, things heat up , but events take a turn and the family is torn apart. Set amongst the beauty and vibrancy of Akranes and Reykjavik, the film is a heartfelt depiction of the disintegration of a family. (source-Glasgow Film Festival)
