Dungeons & Dragons Sequel Script Revealed
Justice Smith plays Simon, Chris Pine plays Edgin, Sophia Lillis plays Doric and Michelle Rodriguez plays Holga in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves from Paramount Pictures.
Three years on from the release of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s fantasy heist film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, an adaptation of the tabletop role-playing game of the same name featuring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith and Sophia Lillis, the co-directors have revealed there was a follow-up script written.
Written by Michael Gilio with additional story credits by Chris McKay, the adaptation charts the journey of Edgin Darvis, a bard, as he bands together a team to obtain an ancient relic alongside barbarian Holga Kilgore. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves pleased critics through its performances, humour and visual composition, yet could scarcely outperform its $150 million production budget, only grossing $208 million worldwide at the box office.
2023 saw Daley confess to Polygon that “it was never our intention when we came on board this film to make a franchise“, with Goldstein later adding that any follow-up would return audiences to the characters established in their film. “The audience knows them, and you can jump into the plot more quickly,” he stated. “And obviously, we have great affection for both the actors and these roles that they play. But we’d want to introduce some new figures along the way.”

Now, a recent sit-down has seen Goldstein reveal that there is a sequel script completed yet; likewise, to the first film overseeing stallings in development since 2013, there are budget oppostions.
“We actually wrote a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons. We were hired to write it. I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons,” the writer and director shared. “They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.”
Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy game created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, initially published by Tactical Studies Rules in its debut year of 1971, before moving to Wizards of the Coast and then staying with Hasbro. The game focuses on a player taking on the role of Dungeon Master, while the other players take on a distinct character and share their interactions and intentions verbally as a group. After ten years, the game accumulated over three million players and was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2016, followed by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame a year later.
