Emma Stone & Chris Pine Rom-Com The Catch Gets Release Date
Exclusive reports from Deadline have revealed that Poor Things star Emma Stone and Star Trek actor Chris Pine are “closing a deal” to star in the upcoming romantic-comedy, The Catch, working under director (and Stone’s husband) Dave McCary with writers Patrick Kang and Michael Levin.
There are yet to be any confirmed plot details or outlines, but sources can confirm the film will read as a “two-hander” romance. There was also confirmation that McCary’s project caught Stone’s full attention when scouting other scripts for next year’s releases.
Production will be shared between Stone, McCary, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Michael H. Weber and Ali Herting. Robin Fisichella is credited as executive producer.
Stone has recently appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos’s sci-fi black comedy Bugonia, for which she received her third Best Actress Oscar nomination following her win for appearing as Bella in Lanthimos’s Poor Things, adapted from the Alasdair Gray novel of the same title.
Meanwhile, Pine appeared in the Italian drama, The Kidnapping of Arabella, by director Carolina Cavall, as well as Rachel Lambert’s romantic drama, Carousel, which saw a Sundance debut earlier this year, as well as being expected to appear in the upcoming sci-fi comedy Alpha Gang by director duo David Zellner and Nathan Zellner.
McCary’s film credits include his debut, Brigsby Bear, as well as producer credits on A Real Pain, When You Finish Saving the World, and I Saw the TV Glow.
The Catch will hit cinemas on May 21st, 2027.
