Christopher McQuarrie-Led Battlefield Video Game Adaptation In Works

Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise on promo tour for Mission Impossible 8

According to THR, an adaptation of beloved video game Battlefield is in the works, with legendary director Christopher McQuarrie and Sinners Oscar-winning star Michael B Jordan believed to be involved.

The report states that McQuarrie, fresh off multiple Tom Cruise hits, is attached to write, direct and produce the feature. Meanwhile, Jordan is due to produce and possibly star in the film, depending on several factors.

Additional producers on the project include Jesse Stern of Electronic Arts, Carter Swan of Emerald Neon, Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo, and Elizabeth Raposo of Outlier Society.

Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that the film is currently a hot property amongst studios. McQuarrie and several others are believed to have pitched to several studios and streamers over the course of last week. There is a push from the team behind the project to prioritise a cinema release, so it is unclear if Netflix is on the cards for a meeting. So far, it is believed that Apple and Sony were meetings they’ve had so far.

Battlefield has been a major video game franchise since it was first released in 2002 as a World War Two game called Battlefield 1942. There have been 18 games in the franchise so far, with Battlefield 6 released last year and set two years into the future. It was reportedly one of the most expensive games ever made, but it did manage to sneak in as the top game of 2025.

McQuarrie will also write and direct King Conan with Arnold Schwarzenegger, whilst Jordan is busy with his new remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, in which he stars, produces and directs.

We will update with more information on the project as it comes!
