First Clayface Teaser Reveals A Twisted DC Origin
DC Studios and Warner Bros. have unveiled the first teaser trailer for Clayface, and you can watch it here.
James Watkins directs the screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, based on characters from the DC comics, in the studio’s first-ever foray into the horror genre. The film unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster as Tom Rhys Harries stars in the title role of the Gotham City villain.
The film explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.
The teaser offers a strong glimpse into the darker direction Clayface is taking, suggesting a film that wonโt be for the faint of heart. It leans heavily into body horror, following struggling actor Matt Hagen, whose life changes after his face is disfigured in a knife attack. In search of a fix, he undergoes an experimental procedure that initially appears successful, but quickly spirals as his body transforms into clay, reshaping itself to mimic anyoneโs appearance.
The film also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan.ย
The film sets up the origin story of the Batman villain, first introduced in 1940 as one of the characterโs earliest antagonists, before being redefined in 1961 with his shapeshifting abilities. He has since appeared in various adaptations, including the 1990s Batman: The Animated Series and the 2010’s Fox series Gotham. This version returns to Gotham City to explore the story behind the villain in more depth.
Produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Michael E. Uslan, Rafi Crohn, Paul Ritchie, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther serving as executive producers,
Clayfaceย will be released in the UK and Ireland on October 23rd.
