DC Studios’ “Clayface” Casts Welsh Actor Tom Rhys Harries in Lead Role
DC Studios has announced that Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries will portray Clayface in the upcoming film of the same name directed by James Watkins. The character has been a popular figure among DC Animation audiences thanks to Alan Tudyk‘s comedic portrayal of the shapeshifter in Harley Quinn.ย Yet,ย Clayface will be the first live-action appearance for the beloved villain.
Tom Rhys Harries has appeared in Netflixโs White Lines, Apple TV+โs Suspicion as well as the Guy Ritchie directed The Gentlemen.
James Gunn posted on X when the news broke, saying that he was โblown awayโ by Tom Rhys Harries. Whilst there has been just the one casting announcement, we also know that The Batman director and writer Matt Reeves is involved as a producer.
Clayfaceโs script was penned by horror darling Mike Flanagan who is responsible for writing the likes of The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep and Midnight Mass. Whilst there is not much known about the plot of the film yet, we do know that in 2021 Mike Flanagan posted on twitter about wanting to make a Clayface movie that was a โhorror/thriller/tragedyโ. With James Gunn going out of his way to name Flanagan and director James Watkins who last directed Speak No Evil in his X post, we can expect plenty of inspiration from the horror genre when the film releases.
Clayfaceย is currently slated to release on 11th September 2026.
