The brightest, bravest and boldest female superheroes best female superheroes ever

Female superheroes are making a name for themselves in a world dominated by men (particularly ones in tight pants and capes). These inspiring women shine through and show that women can save the world too and break a barrage of stereotypes in the process. To celebrate the release of Supergirl: The Complete Second Season on Blu-rayTM and DVD on August 21 we’re taking a look at the brightest, bravest and boldest female superheroes on screen…

Kara Danvers – Supergirl

At the age of only 12 years old, Kara Zor-El escaped doom on the planet Krypton to find protection on Earth, making her quite clearly destined to be a bad-ass. She fought to keep her extraordinary powers a secret but was soon recruited by a super-secret agency and her impressive powers were put into action to protect the city and its citizens from very real and deadly threats, including those she inadvertently led to Earth! Known for her superhuman strength, speed, and stamina, as well as a whole host of other remarkable powers she could be viewed as the brightest, bravest and boldest female superhero of them all! Melissa Benoist takes on the role as the one-and-only Supergirl, whereby she must juggle her new responsibilities putting her Kryptonian powers to good use while also balancing her very human relationships!

Storm – X-Men

Storm has become one of the most identifiable faces of the X-Men with her flowing white hair and incredible weather-controlling abilities. We have seen Halle Berry bring the role to life throughout the X-men franchise with the younger version being portrayed by Alexandra Shipp in the latest saga. From tribal beginnings in Kenya, to petty criminal in Cairo and on to being a teacher at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, Storm quickly developed into a key member of the X-men team and is as caring as she is formidable. Storm was one of the first major black superheroes and the first black female superhero! She truly is a trail blazer… mess with Ororo Munroe and you could be at the mercy of a hurricane!

Black Widow – The Avengers

Natalia Alianovna Romanova, also known as Natasha Romanoff and by her alias ‘Black Widow’, was a deadly Russian spy who defected to the United States and became a member of The Avengers. Scarlett Johansson stars as the biotechnologically-engineered, flame-haired Avenger who can take down a room full of assailants single headedly without the use of a mechanised suit, godly hammer or indestructible shield. Black Widow is one of the more level headed Avengers but that doesn’t make her any less deadly.

Wonder Woman

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, warrior of peace hailing from an island of women isolated from the outside world for centuries. Known for being a tender, peace-loving individual while also having all the strength of Superman, she epitomises girl power. Over the years she has assisted in the war effort, served as a founding member of the Justice League and lived a double life under the disguise of Diana Prince. She encompasses everything ‘superhero’ and Gal Gadot’s representation definitely earns her a place on the list of the brightest, bravest and boldest female superheroes!

Scarlet Witch – The Avengers

Wanda Maximoff was once a normal girl from the fictional nation of Sokovia, but soon became an extremely powerful advanced human after experimentation with Loki’s Scepter. The alias of Scarlet Witch arose once her energy manipulating abilities manifested, which appear as glowing red waves, blasts and bolts. Despite originally siding against The Avengers, Scarlet Witch has since become a valued ally and saved countless lives. One of the characters key motives has been to alleviate strife, first siding with Ultron to save Sokovia before realising his true, dastardly intentions and siding with The Avengers.
