Amazon MGM Studios Announces Live-Action FernGully Remake

Marielle Hellerย is set to write and direct the film.

FernGully: The Lost Rainforest remake coming

Another beloved animated classic is getting the live-action treatment. Amazon MGM Studios has announced a live-action film based on the 1992 animated feature FernGully: The Last Rainforest is now in development.

The original film, which featured the voices of Robin Williams, Tim Curry, Christian Slater, and Samantha Mathis, is set in an Australian rainforest populated by fairies. When one of them accidentally shrinks a logger to fairy size, they band together to protect the rainforest from other loggers and an evil pollution entity named Hexxus.

Known for its environmental messaging, FernGully later received a direct-to-video sequel in 1998.
