The word on the street is that one of the year’s upcoming horror films reads as an allusion to the creative visions of Jordan Peele and Bill Condon combined.

After its London Frightfest premiere last year, the trailer for “Get Out Meets Candyman” Noseeum was released exclusively on Comingsoon.net. The film is by Raven DeShay Carter in her directorial feature debut, working from a script penned by Jason-Michael Anthony and Hendreck Joseph. The cast includes Aleigha Burt, Tabitha Getsy, Trisha Arozqueta, Jasmine Nguyen and Jessie Roddy

The given synopsis reads as follows: “Fresh from her toxic relationship, a curious college student, Ember, reluctantly agrees to a weekend trip with her roommate and wealthy white ‘friends’ to a secluded lake house in the Florida backwoods. Once she arrives at this unsettling land, it becomes familiar as she unearths troubled spirits that owned it and seeks to reclaim it.”

Noseeums’ trailer wastes no time in establishing its socio-political context surrounding race and expectations embedded into the traditional horror visuals, aligning with the branding of a Peele feature. “As black people in America, we find a lot of cruel truths, but today, we focus on Black land lost”, an immediate voice in the trailer informs us.

The trailer then pours out its skin-crawling imagery of insects, startling banging doors and unnerving reflections in mirrors.

We invite you to take back what is yours,” reads the trailer tagline.

ComingSoon.net has confirmed a digital release on 27th February and a Pan-African Film Festival premiere the same month.
