Ramin Bahrani’s “most commercial film” Vegas: A Love Story begins production
with Maika Monroe, Brandon Sklenar, Judy Greer, Michael Shannon and Paul Dano set to star
Deadline has reported an exclusive update on Iranian-American filmmaker Ramin Bahrani’s upcoming feature Vegas: A Love Story, which has reportedly begun production today.
The filmmaker, who already has eight features under his name, such as 2021’s The White Tiger, will direct Maika Monroe and Brandon Sklenar as two lovers whose paths cross in Las Vegas. The script was penned by Bahareh Azimi, and the film is also set to star Judy Greer, Paul Dano and Michael Shannon.
According to Deadline, the film’s synopsis reads as: “As Dillon (Monroe) hides the fact that she’s living out of her car, Freddy’s (Sklenar) wary in-laws (Shannon and Greer) step in to protect their grandson. The return of Ryder (Dano), Dillon’s charming but self-destructive ex, threatens to unravel everything.”
The site also shared Bahrani’s process of finding the film’s concept, as he shared that he spent “over a year in Las Vegas to write and prepare this film.” For the filmmaker, Vegas: A Love Story is “a story about people living close to the edge, who don’t believe they deserve love, and find it anyway.”
“My leads; Maika Monroe and Brandon Sklenar supported by Paul Dano, Michael Shannon, and Judy Greer. When you have an ensemble this extraordinary then the film can grow from the inside out, revealing itself through the process,” Bahrani added. “And, a bittersweet thanks to my friend and former producer, the late Kevin Turen for connecting me with producer Jason Michael Berman, who has believed in my vision from the very start, and to Andrea Bucko and all my incredible producers and executive producers for supporting me.”
Sugar Rush Pictures Producer Bucko also stated: “I hope our film will entrance audiences with the hope of broken characters finding love. I’ll never look at people on the margins the same way again.”
Deadline stated there is a consensus that this picture will be “Bahrani’s most commercial film to date”.
