Pierce Brosnan Speaks Out About The Next James Bond

Rumours have been circulating for months now about who could play the next 007, and Pierce Brosnan has added to the ongoing discourse on who should be the new James Bond.

The Irish actor, who played James Bond between 1995 and 2002, recently said there are “lots of great actors” up for the role, but he thinks they might cast someone unknown. In an interview with The Times, Brosnan said: “I have no desire to see myself in Bond. I’m just a member of the audience now awaiting the next Bond and wishing him well.”

He continued: “There are lots of good hats in the ring. Lots of great actors. I see it. I follow it. They could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us knows about.”

On who he would pick as the next Bond, Brosnan said, “I wouldn’t pick anyone. My wife told me not to say anything, and I’ve said too much. Because once I say something, it goes [everywhere] and I get hanged.”

While Brosnan has stayed tight-lipped about who he thinks the next 007 could be, his Thursday Murder Club co-star Tom Ellis has entered the ring. Ellis told Metro UK that Brosnan told him he thought he’d make a good Bond. Ellis remarked: “I was like, ‘Pierce, I think I’m probably too old now. But I’ll take it from you, mate.”

Brosnan first appeared as the 007 agent in 1995 with GoldenEye, directed by Martin Campbell. He reprised his role in 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies, 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, and 2002’s Die Another Day.

Daniel Craig succeeded Brosnan for 2006’s Casino Royale and ended his tenure in the 2021 film, No Time to Die.

The future of the franchise has been hanging in the balance ever since, although auditions for the role took place over the summer, with attached actor names allegedly in line to take on the mantle include Callum Turner, Jack Barton, Jack Lowden, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson.
