Disney star-turned-household name Zendaya has expressed a desire to vanish from the public eye after a year of consecutive film releases, in a direct statement obtained from Fandango during an interview.

The star, who made her debut in the Disney Channel teen show Shake It Up, which ran from 2010 to 2013, transitioned onto the big screen in Space Buddies. Once the late 2010s hit, Zendaya was beginning to make a steady name for herself, getting the role of MJ in 2017’s MCU installment Spider-Man: Homecoming and its sequels: 2019’s Far From Home, 2021’s No Way Home and the upcoming Brand New Day.

She also had a central role in The Greatest Showman,  Malcolm and Marie and  Challengers as standalone projects. The early 2020’s have seen the star bag another hugely popular franchise adapted from an original sci-fi material, appearing as Chani in Denis Villenue’s film series adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune books, with the first two films being released in 2021 and 2024, while the third is due for release later this year.

The actress also has the central role of Rue in HBO’s smash-hit drama series Euphoria, which debuted to an immediate fanbase in 2019 with a second season following in 2022.

However, Zendaya has shared a step back from appearing in a mainstream blockbuster’s credits, stating, “I just hope people don’t get sick of me, and I really appreciate everyone who supports any of the movies [and] supports my career in any kind of way. I’m deeply appreciative.”

“I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year because I’ll tell you what — I’m disappearing for a little bit,” the actress added. “I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit.”

Zendaya is scheduled to appear in some more heavy-hitting names, such as the third season of Euphoria, Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of The Odyssey and the third Dune film.

The Drama opens in cinemas on March 3rd.
