Trailer Drops For Ryan Murphy's The Shards

Following the success of Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr & Carolyn Bessette, Ryan Murphy is back with a new project, The Shards, dropping on Hulu and FX this summer.

Set in 1981 Los Angeles and starring Igby Rigney (The Fall of the House of Usher), Homer Gere (Euphoria), Hayes Warner and Kaia Gerber (Bottoms), the series follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school, navigating identity, sex, jealousy, obsession, and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence. Evan Rachel Wood, Wes Bentley, Jordan Roth and Graham Campbell also star.

The series follows aspiring writer Bret (Rigney), whose reality begins to unravel with the arrival of a mysterious and magnetic new student, Robert Mallory (Gere). Rather eerily, Robert’s arrival coincides with the growing terror of The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across Los Angeles.

Bret’s elite social circle includes Susan Reynolds (Gerber), Debbie Schaffer (Warner) and Thom Wright (Campbell). FX describes the friends as “a glamorous and deeply entangled group drawn into a life of wealth, beauty, parties and excess.” The promise of their youth is contrasted with the dark and cynical world of the adults surrounding them: Terry Schaffer (Bentley), Liz Schaffer (Wood) and Steven Reinhardt (Roth).

The trailer promises intrigue, thrill, and a glimpse into the lives of 1980s Los Angeles’ elite. Murphy’s recent project, Love Story, perfectly captures the New York fashion and social scene in the ’90s, so here’s hoping The Shards captures this era just as well.

The Shards is based on the best-selling thriller by Brett Easton-Ellis. 20th Television is producing the series, with Ryan Murphy attached as Executive Producer.
