A blonde woman and younger woman in glasses looked shocked in The Gallerist

Creating great is a fantastic wonderful gift, and the world of art once again will laugh at itself in dark comedy The Gallerist. Roadside Attractions have released the official U.S Trailer for the indie and Natalie Portman ‘Creates Art’.

The film is directed by Cathy Yan whose last film was the Harley Quinn film, Birds Of Prey. Critics may argue Yan’s last film was a complete disaster, it wasn’t perfect but wasn’t a total disaster either. The director heads back to her indie roots and poking a big stick into the art world. When it comes to satire, getting the right balance of humour and commentary is a must. Ruben Ostlund‘s The Square is a perfect example and Yan’s film goes absurd how far leave that to you.

What’s The Gallerist all about? We follow struggling Miami art gallery owner (Portman) and her assistant (Ortega) who tries to save her career by passing off an accidental corpse as a high-art installation at Art Basel.

The rest of the cast includes Jenna Ortega, Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Brรผhl, Charli xcx, Zach Galifianakis, Daโ€™Vine Joy Randolph, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Synopsis | Set against the glittering excess of Art Basel Miami, The Gallerist follows an ambitious gallery owner (Portman) clinging to the edge of elite society and desperate to prove herself on the heels of a nasty separation, facing mounting financial hardship. What begins as an impromptu act of survivalโ€”when she conspires to pass off an accidental corpse as the centerpiece of her debut showโ€”spirals into a sly game of deception, spectacle, and ticking-clock chaos as influencers and police converge. Will she end up famous, a felon, or both?

We have no word on who will release The Gallerist in the UK and Ireland. Roadside Attractions will release the film in the U.S and you can catch it at a cinema near you on 4th December.
