Nitram (20210

Picturehouse Entertainment have debuted the intense UK Trailer for Justin Kurzel’s devastating new film Nitram.

The film is based on one of Australia’s worst mass shooting tragedies which happened Port Arthur, Tasmania 1996. A chilling and disturbing character study of the titular character played by Caleb Landry Jones. The film made it’s world premiere at 2021 Cannes Film Festival with Landry Jones winning best actor along with a host of glowing reviews.

The film follows the young man called Nitram who was responsible for the atrocity. Attempting to dive into the mind and try to understand his mindset. The film doesn’t shy away from dark themes as we follow the build up to the tragic events.  It won’t be an easy watch and it also sparked the debate of gun control  as well as mental health issues in the country too.

Our writer Dallas King watched the film last month at Glasgow Film Festival. He gave it 4 stars and described it as ‘Captivating And Engrossing’ which Picturehouse Entertainment have used in the trailer below…

Nitram (Caleb Landry-Jones) lives with his mother (Judy Davis) and father (Anthony Lapaglia) in suburban Australia in the Mid 1990s. He lives a life of isolation and frustration, never being able to fit in. That is until he unexpectedly finds a close friend in a reclusive heiress, Helen (Essie Davis). However, when that friendship meets a tragic end and Nitram’s loneliness and anger grow, he begins a slow descent that leads to disaster.

NITRAM is a compelling narrative portrait about the troubled person behind Australia’s worst mass-shooting in Port Arthur in 1996. The film focuses on the life of Nitram in the time leading up to the shootings, and sheds light on how these incidents could have come to pass, bringing to the fore a range of themes that challenge modern-day society including isolation, family support interventions, mental health and gun control.

The film also stars Essie Davis, Anthony LaPaglia, Judy Davis, and Sean Keenan. Nitram will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 1st July.
