She was one of the 20th century’s most influential opera singers, This January Maria Callas will get her story on the big screen with Maria. Today Studiocanal UK release the full UK version of the trailer with Angelina Jolie as ‘La Divina‘.

Days after the film’s UK Premiere at BFI London Film Festival, we get an even better look at Pablo Larrain‘s film. Maria is a film that doesn’t focus on her whole life, just one part of the legends life. Set in her final days of her career in 1977 Paris, struggling recapture her iconic form.

This film in a way is a impassioned project for the Chilean filmmaker, whom next to film Opera is another passion. A film showcasing how the mighty have fallen as much as it’s the struggles staying at the top of your game. When you add drugs to the agenda, sadly the outcome is going to be tragic.

Freda Cooper watched the film at BFI London Film Festival giving it 4 stars. The standout of the film being Angelina Jolie‘s performance saying “one of the most photographed women in the world, she’s genuinely a talented actor. A superstar playing a superstar“.

Studiocanal UK are still set to release Maria in UK and Irish cinemas from 10th January 2025 (it’s on Netflix in the U.S 11th December). The film also stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Valeria Golino.
