The Trust marks the directorial feature debut for The Brewer Brothers Alex and Benjamin In a department full of sleaze and corruption, Las Vegas cops Jim Stone (Nicolas Cage) and David Waters (Elijah Wood) form an unlikely team as they begin an off-the-books investigation into a bailed heroin dealer.
Discovering the dealer’s huge underground safe beneath an apartment building, they hatch a plan into the safe for their own ends…
Whatever you think of Nicholas Cage, it’s always intriguing to see what he does next and when we do it’s always the talk of the town be it negative or positive. The Trust on paper you could easily say “I’ve seen this type of movies a thousand times before”, you probably be right. However the early reviews have been very positive (shock horror I hear some of you say!), largely thanks to a surprise festival screening at last month’s SXSW. Variety and The Guardian gave the film 4 stars, you don’t have to be regular readers to know they don’t out good reviews to anyone.
You could say opposites attract might be reason this one might be one of Cage’s better films thanks to his co-lead in Wood. Cage is his usual darkly comical charismatic self, Wood once again a reserved innocence, still boyish nature he had in Lord Of The Rings films. What will be interesting is Jerry Lewis playing Cage’s on screen father giving the film a comedic edge against his unhinged nature, here’s hoping both find themselves in (facial) expressive fun moments!
The Trust also stars Sky Ferreira and will be released in UK on 27th May at cinema near you and available on Digital HD download too!.
