The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Revealed As Title of Mario Sequel

Nintendo and Universal have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros sequel as part of this year’s Nintendo Direct. The reveal confirms the title as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and will be released next year.

Chris Meledandri of Illumination, who is behind the film, also announced that Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) would all be returning to the cast. The first film, The Super Mario Bros Movie, was a massive success, earning $1.36 billion at the Box Office, making it the most successful video game adaptation ever and also the fifth-highest-grossing animated film of all time.

The announcement of the film comes on the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Super Mario Bros. game in Japan, and the Creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, has also noted that the movie will be the ‘main event’ of Mario’s 40th anniversary celebrations. There were rumours that the film was going to be called Super Mario World, after the 1990 SNES game, but plans for that appear to have changed with this announcement.
