The Rebellion Rises In New The Hunger Games: Sunshine On The Reaping Trailer
Challenge authority, capitalise power, the rebellion will be rising this November when The Hunger Games: Sunshine on the Reaping arrives in cinemas. Today Lionsgate Films release a brand new trailer with a new hero ready to rise and answer the call for the Hunger Games! May the odds be in your favour!
Before there was Katniss Everdeen, there was Haymitch Abernathy. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
This is the second The Hunger Games prequel with the focus another iconic character. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes focused on a young Coriolanus Snow and his his mentor Lucy Gray Baird from District 12. Sunshine On The Reaping is all about Katniss Mentor, Haymitch originally played by Woody Harrelson and now Joseph Zada.
Like the previous film this is full of familiar faces that include Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle and Jesse Plemons as a younger Plutarch Heavensbee. Elle Fanning as a younger version of Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman.
This film is based on a the last The Hunger Games book that was published in March 2025. Whilst the other books had time to mature and garner interest in becoming films, Lionsgate will be hoping the franchise will interest fans. The critical response for the books has been good and a gritty backstory for Haymitch to have pulling power.
This also stars Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, McKenna Grace, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV.
The Hunger Games: Sunshine On The Reaping will commence in UK, Irish and U.S Cinemas from 20th November.
