The Mummy Adds New Cast Members Including ‘Moon Knight’ Star May Calamawy
Blumhouse’s The Mummy remake has added three more actors to its cast, including Moon Knight actress May Calamawy, Deadline has reported.
Deadline confirmed that actresses May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Verónica Falcón (Imaginary, The Forever Purge), and May Elghety (Due Dating) have joined the cast of the upcoming feature. The trio will join the previously announced Jack Reynor (The Perfect Couple, Midsommar) and Laia Costa (The Wheel of Time, Victoria).
The original The Mummy was released back in 1932, starring the iconic Boris Karloff as Imhotep. The franchise would be remade into a successful blockbuster in 1999, starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, and rebooted again in 2017 to less success in a film starring Tom Cruise.
This most recent iteration will be written and directed by Lee Cronin, who recently handled 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. The standalone addition to Sam Raimi’s beloved Evil Dead franchise received generally positive reviews. Evil Dead Rise also grossed $147 million worldwide on a reported budget of $15 million. The Mummy is being produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster for New Line. Producers for the feature include James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville.
May Calamawy is an Egyptian-Palestinian actress best known for her role as Layla El-Faouly/Scarlet Scarab on the Disney+ show Moon Knight, alongside Oscar Isaac. She has also been a main cast member on Hulu’s Ramy since 2019. Verónica Falcón is a Mexican actress. No stranger to Blumhouse productions, she has recently appeared in both Imaginary and The Forever Purge. Meanwhile, May Elgherty is a prolific Egyptian TV actress with credits such as Grand Hotel, and Tayee. She has also appeared in international projects, including roles in Kizazi Moto and Due Dating.
The Mummy has already begun filming, with production currently underway in Ireland and Spain. There is some mystery around the project, as at the time of writing, it remains unconfirmed who will be playing the titular, iconic role.
