Laia Costa joins Jack Reynor in Lee Cronin’s Mummy reboot
The upcoming reboot of The Mummy is largely under wraps but casting details are now trickling out. It’s been confirmed that Laia Costa will be joining Jack Reynor for the Atomic Monster/Blumhouse production, which is set to be directed by Lee Cronin. The news was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Costa is best known for her role in the ambitious one-shot drama Victoria (2015). Reynor has been seen in the likes of Ari Aster’s horror Midsommar (2019). Cronin most recent production was the grisly Evil Dead Rise (2023), the sequel to the 2013 Evil Dead reboot.
Atomic Monster is spearheaded by Saw, Insidious and Conjuring filmmaker James Wan. Blumhouse, founded by Jason Blum, has a solid track record in blockbusting horror fare. The studio’s recent successes include Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023), the sequel to which is being released in 2025.
Both companies will collaborate with Cronin’s Doppelgรคngers production banner. Production is set to begin in Ireland this year although little is known about the plot. THR suggests that Reynor and Costa play a married couple that crosses paths with the dreaded mummy.
The various parties will be hoping for a big hit following the disastrous Mummy reboot from 2017. The film starred Tom Cruise and was such a flop that it killed plans for Universal‘s ‘Dark Universe‘ series of monster movie remakes.
This latest iteration will be distributed by New Line, Cronin‘s partners on Evil Dead Rise. It’s the first Mummy film not distributed by Universal, ending an association that stretches back to 1932.
The Mummy is scheduled for release in America onย 17th April, 2026.
