Sources have confirmed a release date for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the Amazon Prime Video show adapted from author J. R. R. Tolkien’s history of Middle-earth, taking place years before the events of the Lord of the Rings book series.

The fantasy series was developed by the duo J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay and focuses on an initially peaceful time in Middle-earth, moving to the time in which the Rings of Power were forged and the Nรบmenor kingdom fell.

The first season aired in late 2022, and the first two episodes gained 25 million global viewers within the first 24 hours. December saw the series reach a total of 100 million viewers, which pushed it to the streaming platform’s most-viewed show. Season two, taking viewers to the rise of Sauron and his manipulation of the Elves to create more Rings of Power for control, followed in 2024, reaching an estimated 40 million viewers globally in just under two weeks of release. Reports also claim the second season’s streaming completion oversaw a 10% rise compared to the first.

Sources are now stating the third season of Payne’s and McKay’s show will receive a 2026 release rather than an initially planned 2027 one. It will open with the intensity of the War of the Elves and Sauron, with the Dark Lord stopping at nothing to reach a total conquering of the land, thanks to the creation of the One Ring.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Powerย stars Charlie Vickers, Morfydd Clark, and BAFTA Winner Robert Aramayo.

The third season will feature Jamie Campbell Bower, Eddie Marsan, Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla and Adam Young.
