It’s time to kit up, fellow Chroniclers! We’re heading underwater for the latest episode of The Chronicle Film Podcast. In Episode 70, Paul is joined by James Morton to review Whalefall. So, let’s dive right in!

New episodes are coming thick and fast, and this time, we’re plunging into the depths with Brian Duffield‘s survival thriller Whalefall. Starring Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin, this underwater nightmare takes us into the belly of the beast — quite literally!

The film follows Jay (Austin Abrams), who has recently lost his father, Mitt (Josh Brolin). Determined to find his father’s remains off the Californian coast, Jay embarks on a dangerous diving expedition. However, his search takes a terrifying turn when he finds himself swallowed by a sperm whale, leaving him fighting for survival inside one of the ocean’s largest creatures.

Alongside Abrams and Brolin, the cast includes Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd.

Is Whalefall a modern retelling of the biblical story of Jonah and the whale? Or will this survival thriller leave us gasping for air rather than cheering from the shore?

Listen to Paul and James as they discuss whether Whalefall is destined to make a splash or simply sink to the bottom of the sea and become whale food!
