The Chronicle Episode 68 – Resident Evil, Sense & Sensibility, Heart Of The Beast

After a few weeks away, Episode 68 takes us to Raccoon City, into the world of Jane Austen, and deep into the Alaskan wilderness, where one man and his dog are fighting to survive.
For our latest episode, I’m joined by Bradley and Gemma, a regular writer at The Peoples Movies, as we tackle three very different films: Resident Evil, Sense and Sensibility and Heart of the Beast.
First up, I’m joined by Bradley and Gemma to head into the terrifying world of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil. Austin Abrams stars as our everyman medical courier, who arrives late at a hospital and is offered the opportunity to take on a much better-paid delivery job to Raccoon City.
There’s just one problem: he has no idea he’s driving straight into the middle of a rapidly spreading and deadly outbreak.
Next, Gemma and I swap survival horror for the world of Jane Austen with Sense and Sensibility. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esme Creed-Miles star as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, who, alongside their younger sister and widowed mother, are forced to leave their family home and move into a humble cottage.
As the sisters adjust to their new circumstances, they also find themselves navigating love, relationships and the search for suitable suitors. The film also stars George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Catriona Balfe, Fiona Shaw and Herbert Nordrum.
Finally, who doesn’t love a good film about a man and his dog? We head into the Alaskan wilderness with David Ayer’s Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt as James, a retired Special Forces veteran.
When his plane crashes in the remote Alaskan wilderness, James is forced to embark on a gruelling 58-mile trek to safety with his traumatised dog, Odin. With the elements against them and survival hanging in the balance, can the pair make it out alive?
Three films, three very different stories and plenty for the Chroniclers to debate.
