Andy Serkis Confirmed To Return In The Batman: Part II
Schedules seems to have been sorted for the actor to return.
Deadline has just confirmed that Andy Serkis will return as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II.
There was concern that he wouldn’t be able to make the production schedule work alongside Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, but it now looks like he’ll be able to make both shoots work. The DC sequel is due to begin shooting in June in London. During press for his upcoming film, Animal Farm, a couple of different outlets were quick to ask him if he’s going to be returning.
With Serkis telling Collider, “I’m pretty certain it’s all going to work out. Yeah, we’re working on it, but I think it’s all looking good.” and then adding to Screen Rant, “by the end of the year, I will be”.
Serkis will be joining the cast that obviously includes Robert Pattinson returning as the Caped Crusader with Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Scarlett Johansson in an unnamed role, and Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent. Much has been made of the other big role in the film, that of Dent’s father, Christopher, with the likes of Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Stellan Skarsgard and Daniel Craig all reportedly passing on the role. Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings) has recently been rumoured for the role.
The first film made over $772M worldwide to huge praise. It also led to a spin-off TV series called The Penguin, which won nine Emmys, including one for Cristin Milioti in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category.
The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled for release on October 1st 2027.
