VOLCANO_(2019)

There was an eruption at Toronto Film Festival in 2019. That was the world premiere of Karen Moore‘s Volcano and nearly year on the film is widely available and this weeks Sunday Short Theatre.

The film focuses on the complexities of human relationships. Starring Hannah Cheesman and Jess Salgueiro as longtime friends who decide to meet up at a local Tiki Bar. What starts as a jolly catchy up talking about many thingsย  including Hannah’s romantic Mexican holiday. Things start to unravel, including several uncomfortable truths sees the friends bidding for attention.

Volcano marks Canadian filmmaker’s directorial debut. Moore has already made an career as a successful TV writer with the likes of Mary Kills People, Workinโ€™ Moms on her CV. Dialogue is sharp and in this kind of film works perfectly. Anyone who has seen Moore’s TV work will also recognise her trademark dark humour.
