Sunday Short Theatre – The Cab

This weeks Sunday Short Theatre choice is Nicole Melillo‘s The Cab. A woman’s taxi journey that turns into no ordinary journey, what is her final destination?
First of all a big apologies having no Sunday Short Theatre last week. It was The Glasgow FIlm Festival and scheduling made it impossible to post.
The Cab is a 20 minute drama fantasy short film. All about a woman Eva who takes a taxi ride which becomes a surreal journey through Purgatory. It looks like New York, but this taxi ride becomes a ride that will determine Eva’s final resting place. Back in the real world she commited suicide and the cab takes Eva to the darkest part of her soul, confronting the truth. What fate lies ahead for her?
A very dark emotional subject to cover, sadly Mental health illness is rising. Some of us may not realise they have had or know there struggling. Eva has depression and this short film showcases those daily battles people face. Many don’t realise that journey is one you don’t need to travel alone. The Cab looks very immersive, but still tender and emotional film.
The Cab explores the mind of a woman with depression through a fantastical ride in a NYC Taxicab. The film follows the passenger, Eva, as she discovers she is in no ordinary cab, but rather a purgatory space to determine her final resting place after dying by suicide. With the help of the Cabbie, she must dive deep within and come to terms with the darkest parts of herself to guarantee safe passage.
