Many of us today  or still sitting around the family table (or same room) enjoying a meal. Weather that dinner is an enjoyable, sombre or even a heated affair is another  matter. In this weeks Sunday Short Theatre, Sunday Dinner (2020)  a family reunite for an customary dinner, that unravels thanks to an unexpected confession.

For many people a chance for family even friends to keep traditions like meeting together like a meal are very important. Even more so in today’s climate especially during lockdown, all done following local guidelines. The Castellano family , the Sunday dinner is a custom, with their parents now passed away  this tradition is honouring their parents. The Castellano’s are an Italian-American family, and things are about to go downhill, when one of family confess there Vegan!

More and more people are vegan these days. It’s  those people steeped in traditions who find change difficult or even hard to understand.  Someone confessing change, to the other family members  that change is seen as disrespect and conflict raises it’s ugly head. You never mess with an Italian mums food, the anger, the conflict makes this an interesting short film to watch.


The siblings of a large, loving and passionate Italian family gather for a meal of pasta and meatballs on Sunday evening. Their parents of the Castellano family have passed away, and the rest of the group wants to maintain family traditions in the face of their loss.

But when Don confesses a secret that puts him at odds with his family, all hell breaks loose — and the volume around the dinner table rises in the face of a revelation that goes so far against the family traditions. As the family bickers, they see Don’s secret as a betrayal of their parents’ legacy.

The film is directed by Kevin Mead and Don Fanelli wrote the script.
