The world is a fragile place and that includes us mere humans. Covid-19 has affected us all in many ways and brought the rise of mental health issues to the limelight. These issues have been around for a long time, like depression and it takes centre stage in this week’s Sunday Short Theatre.

This week’s film is a personal one, call it autobiographical from filmmaker Chad Sogas. Rat Tail is gorgeous 15 minute documentary short that accounts the filmmakers battle with depression. One that has nostalgia and elements of comedy, a story about a rat tail. He had it for ten years, which his parents on a self critical journey of discovery.

This brilliant little film rides through Sogas’ ups and downs from his childhood to his adult days dealing with that depression and anxiety. Depression isn’t a laughing matter, this film does inspire and everyone in the same boat needs there self respect. Narratively this hits the right spots, delivered in a quirky manner and go right to that dark place and deal with that negativity that plagues us. I have anxiety, past year many low days, thankfully I’ve taken those first steps to smile once again…
