Watch first trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge

The U.S. version of Squid Game, by David Fincher, appears to be picking up momentumย with a new listing on the Film and Television Industry Alliance websiteย Productionlist.com claiming the show is targeting a February 26th start in Los Angeles.

While Netflix still hasnโ€™t officially confirmed the project, Productionlist.com claims the spin-off will reportedly be titled Squid Game: America. According to the listing, the creative team is listed as having David Fincher, original series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, Kim Ji-yeon, Zeus Zamani, and Rhett Giles as producers. Dennis Kelly is listed as the writer, with Cate Blanchett as the only cast member mentioned. For those that don’t know, Blanchett made a cameo in the final episode of the original show as a recruiter for the American games and is seen playing a game of ddakji with a potential player. The listing also includes a new description of the series, although it doesnโ€™t tell us anything we donโ€™t already know yet:A U.S. version of the Korean hit series, the spinoff is set in the same world, but we get to see how the games are handled in America”.

The original show followed 456 cash-strapped contestants who were competing in a series of deadly children’s games for a massive cash prize of โ‚ฉ45.6 billion( 23.7 million). The contestants soon discover that being eliminated from the games results in death, while the prize money increases with each death. It was a huge global success for Netflix, winning six Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, as well as being the most viewed TV show on the platform. It also went on to spawn a reality TV show spin-off called Squid Game: The Challenge, which has recently finished its second season.

The massive global hit series concluded its three-season run four months ago.
