*SPOILER* Announced As MCU’s Next Black Panther

There’s been some MASSIVE news announced about the previously rumoured Black Panther 3 at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. During the Marvel Studios panel, Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler not only announced the release date, but also its brand new lead.

The franchise began in 2018 with Black Panther. It starred Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett. It quickly became a fan favourite amongst fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Boseman was set to reprise his role in a planned sequel until he sadly passed away in 2020. The follow-up film’s focus then shifted to Wright’s character, Shuri, who takes up the mantle of Black Panther following the death of her brother T’Challa (Boseman). The sequel, Wakanda Forever, was released in 2022 and surpassed $850 million at the worldwide box office. Since then, it wasn’t clear where the franchise has been heading until the exciting news dropped overnight about the third film.

It was announced that the sequel will be filmed on 70mm and released on December 15th 2028, meaning it’s not massively long to wait for fans of the franchise. The most exciting part of the announcements? The news that David Jonsson (The Long Walk, Wasteman) is set to star as an adult version of the son of T’Challa, first seen at the end of Wakanda Forever. The actor is a recent Hollywood breakout, with key roles in Alien: Romulus as well as being part of the main cast for the first two seasons of Industry. “Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honour and privilege and the blessing to join,” Jonsson said after his unveiling to a cheering audience.

Unfortunately, no other major announcements took place at the panel, apart from confirmation of the rumours that Ryan Gosling will appear as Ghost Rider, but that doesn’t take away from what is undoubtedly an incredibly exciting announcement for fans of the Black Panther films.
