Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton join Nicolas Winding Refn’s new film

Companion Sophie Thatcher

Danish auteur and enfant terrible Nicolas Winding Refn is famous for his neon-streaked, gore-splattered cult hits like Drive (2011) and Only God Forgives (2013). Refn is currently prepping Her Private Hell, his first feature film since the nightmarish casting couch allegory The Neon Demon (2016).

Yellowjackets stalwart Sophie Thatcher is confirmed to be starring. Thatcher was recently seen in the Hugh Grant-starring horror hit Heretic (2024) and the A.I.-themed Companion (2025). Charles Melton, one of the stars of Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s visceral combat drama Warfare, will also be featuring.

The news was announced on social media by the distributor Neon. Along with A24, the company has recently cornered the market on buzzed-about indie titles including the multi-Oscar-winning Anora (2024) and the Osgood Perkins horror hit The Monkey (2025).

Given Neon‘s American focus, UK distribution duties will likely fall to another company. Plot details are currently thin on the ground although given Refn’s back catalogue, we can surely expect it to be an assault on the senses and our sense of taste. Nicolas Winding Refn‘s most recent projects have been the Netflix series Copenhagen Cowboy (2023) and, surprisingly, the BBC’s update of The Famous Five (2023 – present).

Her Private Hell is set to begin filming this summer.
