Scrubs Reboot A-Go! Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke To Return

We hope you’re ready to scrub back in as ABC orders a Scrubs straight-to-series reboot, fifteen years since the original sitcom officially ended.

Previously reported back in May 2025 by Selome Hailu (via Variety) that Zach Braff would be returning to Sacred Heart to reprise his centric role as J.D, it has since been confirmed that Braff will reunite with fellow original cast members Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, reprising as their characters Christopher Turk and Elliot Reid, respectively. The trio are also set to executive produce. According to sources, more original cast members are expected to return and the show is set to air during the 2025-2026 TV calendar.

Star Zach Braff expressed his excitement surrounding the show’s return:

“The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes of maybe one or two seasons, and just laughing with everyone? That sounds like a dream.”

Additional returning Sacred Heart alums Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will serve as executive producers and showrunners of the series, with Bill Lawrence executive producing via Doozer along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. 

Series creator Bill Lawrence spoke on the reboot:

“Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.”

The reboot was first reported to be in early development in December 2024. Scrubs initially aired on NBC for its first seven seasons from 2001-2008, followed by two seasons at ABC from 2009-2010.

The single-cam comedy took place at Sacred Heart teaching hospital, and followed the interns, doctors, nurses and Janitor throughout their day-to-day lives at the hospital. The official logline for the new series states:

“JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”

Whilst there always seems to be another reboot, sequel or live-action on our screens these days, I for one, will be thrilled to return to the wings of Sacred Heart, and I’m certain I won’t be the only one scrubbing in.
