Return Of The Edinburgh Film Festival, 2023 Line Up Announced

Past Lives coming to the UK from 8th September from Studiocanal

After the awful news of the closure of the Filmhouse  Cinema last year threatened to end the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the longest running film festival in the world.  In August will see the return of  the festival and today the 2023 line up is announced.

From 18th until 23rd August a special edition of the festival will be part of the city’s infamous Edinburgh International Festival, better known as The Fringe.  A scaled down version 24 new feature films, 5 retrospective titles, 5 short film programmes, and an outdoor screening weekend including 7 further features.

The Festival already announced the opening and closing galas. Starting with the world premiere of Johnny Barrington‘s Scottish based drama Silent Roar. A teenage tale of surfing, sex and hellfire set in the Outer Hebrides. The festival will close with Babak Jalali‘s Fremont, a stylish deadpan dramedy about an insomniac Afghan woman unable to dream the American dream.

Some highlights of this festival will be Christian Petzold‘s Berlinale Silver Bear winner Afire. Ira Sach‘s MUBI bound Passages starring Ben Whishaw, Franz Rogowski and Adèle Exarchopoulos. Sundance favourite Celine Song’s Past Lives will be released in UK Cinemas in September, a story of first love and new life in another country. Anime fans will want to check out The First Slam Dunk, basketball action meets teenage guts in this anime adaptation of a world-popular manga series by Takehiko Inoue.
