Sources have confirmed that Jessica Alba is set to join the cast of the upcoming remake of the 2004 fantasy comedy, 13 Going On 30, by director Gary Winick and starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. Alba will appear in the Netflix reboot alongside Emily Bader, Logan Lerman and Adeline Rudolph.

The 13 Going On 30 remake will be directed by Brett Haley, working from a script penned by Hannah Marks and Flora Greeson. Garner will return as executive producer.

The original film starred Garner as a 13-year-old Jenna Rink who wishes on her birthday to become “thirty, flirty, and thriving” in 1987, only to wake up the next morning 17 years into an alternate future which sees her as a ruthless and backstabbing fashion magazine editor in New York who neglects her family and childhood best friend. Coming into her harsh lifestyle with her teenage mindset, Jenna reworks her shortcomings to awaken the child in her friends and colleagues.

Judy Greer, Andy Serkis, Kathy Barker and Phil Reeves also appeared in the film, which grossed $96 million from its $37 million budget and earned Garner Award nominations at the MTV Movie Awards and Teen Choice Awards for her charming performance.

There is also a 13 Going On 30 stage musical written by original screenwriters Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, with Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner creating the score and lyrics, completed with Andy Fickman as director. The musical featured Lucie Jones as Jenna, Jamie Muscato as Matt and Grace Mouat as Lucy.
