Andrew Garfield sparks a revolt in The Uprising

Focus Features and Entertainment Film Distributors have released the first trailer for the upcoming historical drama, The Uprising, starring Andrew Garfield.

The film sees Garfield star โ€œas the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the Kingโ€™s might in a fight for justice and survival.โ€

This is Garfieldโ€™s second film that he has been a part of this year, with the only other being the film adaptation of Enid Blytonโ€™s novel The Magic Faraway Tree. This one, on the other hand, seems to be targeted toward a much more mature demographic.

The rest of the cast includes Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman and Katherine Waterston.ย

The Uprising is directed by the English filmmaker Paul Greengrass, whose most notable work includes the 2013 Tom Hanks-led Captain Phillips. Greengrass has also helmed three films within the Jason Bourne franchise: The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum and 2016โ€™s Jason Bourne.ย

His most recent work was last yearโ€™s Matthew McConaughey-starring survival thriller, The Lost Bus, which ended up being nominated for a visual effects Academy Award.

Greengrass has penned the film alone, as well as produced it alongside Jason Blum, Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye, Joe Neurauter and Lars Sylvest. Paul has also reunited with his cinematographer from The Lost Bus, Pรฅl Ulvik Rokseth.ย

The Uprising will release in UK and Irish cinemas on 9th October.
